Humberston Allotments The son of an allotment holder contacted Shona and informed her that his father’s allotment shed, along with a further ten, had been broken into. His father had taken all possible measures to ensure that his shed would not be broken into, but the three additional locks he had fitted were levered off. The Police were informed and the crimes reported. The allotment holders had, for some time, been lobbying Humberston Parish Council for permission to erect gates and fencing, at their own expense, to the allotments as a means of reducing the vandalism. Humberston Parish Council would not grant permission for the gates and fencing, as they believed that it would cause an access problem for other residents. The allotment holders consulted with local residents and sought their views, finding that many agreed to their proposals. Nevertheless, the allotment holders still felt that the Parish Council was unnecessarily withholding permission and contacted Shona for advice and assistance. Shona contacted Humberston Parish Council indicating her support for the position of the allotment holders and was later contacted to be informed that the gates and fencing had been erected to everyone’s satisfaction. |
