   Croxton

The memorial plaque for the village of Croxton is in the nave of St John’s Church. It records the names of two men who lost their lives in the First World War. The memorial reads:

WILLIAM CLOWES BESWICK

Private 1138, 10th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment (Grimsby Chums)

Killed in action: 1 July 1916 - first day of the Battle of the Somme

Born in Croxton

Resident of Cresswell, Nottinghamshire

Enlisted in Grimsby

Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial

Private Beswick's name is also on the Laceby War Memorial.

GEORGE KEAL
Lance Corporal 12285, 8th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment

Killed in action: 26 September 1915, aged 27 years

Born in Kirmington

Son of Arthur and Emma Keal, Kirmington

Enlisted in Brigg

Commemorated: Loos Memorial
