   Leading loony

The former leader of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, the late Screaming Lord Sutch, simultaneously stood against all three main party leaders in the 1992 General Election – gaining 728 votes against Tory PM John Major, 547 against Labour leader Neil Kinnock and a mere 338 against Paddy Ashdown of the Lib Dems.
