   Barrow upon Humber Hearth Tax 1662

HEARTH TAX was levied at a rate of 2 shillings per hearth. Those eligible for the tax was drawn up by the parish constable, together with the number of hearths per property. The tax was collected twice a year – first on Lady Day (25 March) and also at Michaelmas (29 September). The tax was repealed in 1689.
